  overview. relian is, above all, an adapter, survivor, and manipulator. with cruelty he bends to the change of the world, but crueler still to those scarcely more than stepping stones upon the path of his necessary eternity. with exception of his own and those few cherished, he holds little regard for life that could not yield his benefit, humanity's above all. a master of deciphering the minds of his prey and playing to their any whim or frailty, he is charismatically seductive, cunning, and heartless. to see beyond that deception which the ancient provides is to peer within the unknown itself.
  yet inwardly, relian is not nearly as the world perceives — for the greater he writhes to escape it, the call of mania devours him. prone to inescapable melancholy, capricious anger, and succumbing to visions of the past, he fears nothing more than the consequence of weakness, and the invitation of downfall that exposing the desolate truth would result in.

  overview. the manifested force of shadow and flame, whose very blood drips in heat of wrath, who bears the title of god in more than mere name. to look upon him is to know dread incarnate.
  demeanor. a writhing hulk of black scale, strength ripples across powerful limbs and frame. he saunters alike all the ancient beasts of earth, reptilian and low, whose weight and crooked fangs contest no equal. in flight, pulses of cracking leathern wings and immense heat are felt long before his approach.
  scent. his body smells of little more than pure, nearly metallic deep earth, as it lacks the qualities of porous skin. but upon the exposing of inner flesh or flame exhaled, it is a scent alike burning and melting stone, earth, and hot ash — one so intense that it often sends those non-draconian to a physically sickened state.

• abilities.

  fire manipulation & conjuration. as the sole harbinger of royal black flame, relian holds perfected, unprecedented, and devastating control over the element for which dragonkind has justly earned their immortal notoriety. fire can be drawn from any place across his body in endless conjurations, for simple ignition of cigarettes to intricate living weapons, but most commonly through gale-like exhalation. though his own flame is reinforced with connection to ancient magics, he can manipulate fire of natural or undominated origin. he is immune to fire and heat related injuries and can withstand both high and low temperature extremes.

  smoke manipulation & conjuration. the second distinct mark of lone sovereignty, a depthless, ink-black shade, such is an extension of relian's self as greatly as his flame. able to deprive a victim of every sense, cripple one's lungs and breath, and bend the corporeal to his whim, he is named god of shadow not only for the blood in his veins, but for its frightful consequences. smoke of natural or undominated origin can also be brought under his will.

  earth manipulation. although unable to be conjured, the beckoning of earth is no less lethal than that of flame or smoke. formed to all from impenetrable barriers, smoldering barrages, lava brought to obsidian, catastrophic divides of stone, and with a terrible clamor he is capable of tearing land asunder. earth under relian's influence is drained of color and blackened.

  illusion magic. able to conceal himself in living human or animal guises, holding near-complete control over the false form's fate, including alteration of appearance, voice, and regeneration of wounds at whim. he often places concealing wards upon his inborn aura of magic, straining as it may be, increasing a veil's effectiveness against unwanted interference. illusionary forms become increasingly arduous to maintain as he continues to lose connection with magic.

  semi-immortality. relian cannot die from old age, and is equipped with exceptional vitality. if injury while disguised cannot be healed, full draconic transformation and subsequent renewal will occur involuntarily. entirely immune to mortal-borne diseases, highly resistant to non-draconian poisons and venom, and highly tolerant to pain.

  dexterity & senses. enhanced reflexes, agility, sight, smell, taste, hearing, stamina, and flexibility. sensitive to environmental changes such as weather, balance, and vibrations in earth. heat pits allow for the detection of infrared light. able to levitate, glide, and cover vertical terrain even without aid of wing. despite aversion to prolonged contact with water, he remains an excellent swimmer, and can hold his breath for up to several hours. through a combination of powerful senses and aura-sight, relian may know a being's true nature, lest they have placed barriers upon themselves to prevent such an act.

  enchanting & runic magic. may place enchantments pertaining to his own abilities, such as flame immunity / vulnerability, flight, and resilience, upon all from weapons to living things. within this same vein of magic come power-imbued runes, which also serve as the dragon tongue's written form, that can be made into summoning fonts, protective wards, and deadly traps, among others. they are secretly carved around any of relian's abodes, providing immediate alerting of intruders.

  telepathy. conveyance of thoughts and visions are limited to one-way interaction, given only through physical touch to creature and man alike.

  zoopathy. relian may communicate with animals through reading or reciprocating body language, sounds, and scent. may also soothe or summon them with his voice, through which complex intent is made primally recognizable by enigmatic affiliation to earth.

  naturopathy. possesses relative knowledge of non-magic herbal medicines, tonics, balms, etc., to cure mild ailments such as fevers, upset stomachs, abrasions, and respiratory distress. can provide therapeutic massages and chiropractic adjustments. retains knowledge on how to recognize and create a broad spectrum of poisons.

  hand-to-hand combat. trained diligently in traditional draconian martial arts, though relian's favored style of combat was known as silk dancing. paired with lightweight swords and named for its fluid, precise, and unpredictable strikes, one appears to preform an effortless dance amidst battle.

  restrictions.

  fulfillment. though dragonkind was largely impervious to ephemerality, as the spirits of elements made manifest, their living vessels could not sustain such power for eternity. thus, when the world would call for its cessation, they would heed it, lest their primordial essence fester and devolve into mania. for many years relian has been tormented with the dying wails and whispers of the earth which bode his reign's end, yet refuses to answer its beckoning, and for his stubbornness, suffers greatly in the form of a deteriorating mind.

  counters. relian has the potential to be weakened by water, ice, and light, most of all by other dragons, or those few as mighty, who wield such elements.

  limitation. larger spells require significant magical exertion and are most effective when relian is not disguised. he is far less powerful while disguised due to the drastic difference in size and restrictions of magic energy reserves, which are naturally more expansive and familiar in his true form. great exhaustion in a disguised form can result in severely delayed or unachievable healing, as well as weakened magic. whilst draconian, he cannot heal as rapidly as he would beneath illusion.

  finality. decapitation causes certain and irreversible death. his eyes are among his only external vulnerabilities, along with the large scar upon his true form's chest. serious damaging of either would prove just as lethal as the severing of his head. extreme wounds while disguised may also result in death if transformation cannot be made.

• i. ignite

  47,738 — 46,912 BCE.

  a child born was a thing to be celebrated, and no less one so long-awaited. though a god in blood and breath, such terribleness had not been found in he who emerged lastly among his brood, beautiful and destined, whose broodmates rang in triumphant squalling as he tore from the last of his black shell, whose proud bearer bestowed unto him a name meant to dominate the greatest flame.

  a child born was a thing to be cherished, but not so to wrath. for then came the new harbinger of obsidian breath, whose predecessor had deemed should never be, and would not soon allow his throne to be claimed, and no hope could spare any of the death to follow.

  yet shadowed by paternal enmity in the year of his hatching, relvaeros was taken beneath the wing of his uncle and spirited to a land which promised sanctuary, known to humans as iran. buried in scholarly asylum for many years following the loss of his mother and family and kingdom, fear could not hide nor bind him forever. a day came that relvaeros was greeted with the summons of an emperor, the head of a magnificent empire of dragons, named zuluthir, who took great interest in the tragic young bearer of primeval blood at the precipice of extinction. and as ardently was the promise of glory and honor laid before another auspicious soul, so, too, was it taken.

  ii. rising

  46,912 — 30,101 BCE.

  it was in midst of endless red sands and sun that the empire of flame claimed their paramount rule, within the extravagant seaside capital of yolro hil, whose thousand, thousand roads burst with bustling merchants and dazzling nobles and cultures and music and aroma from all corners of the earth, whose horizon stretched forever with spiraling gilded castles carved from dark crimson stone — and where relvaeros was to call home. with godhood at his forefront, for the first time he publicly embraced his blood, and quickly established status among the loud and frightening environment, never late to call the aid of inborn insight and majesty and ambition. though it was at the side of zuluthir and his council of five which he often stayed, only little more than a hundred years after its collapse had he set to rebuild his family seat of power, and though ruled from afar, maintained an unbreakable vice upon its stability and subjects, many of whom then migrated to the sun-kissed shores of where their god made his primary dwelling. relvaeros remained no stranger to the people he led, nor of those outside the empire's dominion, and had not gone unloved by them.

  word of the shadow god's name and skill quickly came known, and several decades into his service was met with a new arrival to the empire's breadth — a benevolent, scholarly highborn named rhosathul, a fire healer of that light-wielding blood. it was said the chatter of the room fell naught above a murmur when they first laid eyes upon one another, and the black god-king placed a kiss to the palm of his pale hand. soon they were the dearest of friends, and there bloomed an inseparable coexistence between them, an infatuation and respect, as rhosathul became the foundation for his paramour, a true and sturdy thing to fall upon when the weight of sovereignty was too great to bear. relvaeros found inexplicable familiarity within his words, be they simple quips or heartfelt whispers, and understood that their partnership was to be one of an eternal animate flame, of joy and enlightenment, of a love the young god had so nearly forgotten, and after two centuries of courtship, they were mated for life.

  as the web of relvaeros' companions grew, so joined the empire's swordmaster, a wyrm of stern earth-blood and unshakable spirit, named viikidol, along with his mate and only child. with lessons to provide immeasurable prowess in crafted weapon and magic alike, their bond of teacher and student quickly scaled to a sincere and enduring friendship, whose beginning's roles were often thereafter interchanged. there were even those beyond dragonkind who mingled among their populace and earned favor with the shadow god, one such entity an integral thread in the empire's network of spies, known as udraja, whose mischief entwined smoothly along relvaeros' authoritative repute. the unfathomably ancient spirit of tumultuous abyssal ocean, her power of seamless physical mutation and abode beneath lightless reaches was a necessity to assuring the safety of thousands, and she was respected by all those with sense. and as guidance continued to be heeded, zuluthir himself fell within relvaeros' affections, proving time and again to be a figure of wisdom and strength to a kindred orphan, so understanding of the necessity of acclaim, ensuring his obsidian lord was never far from what warmth an unbroken family may have granted.

  life, for all reaches the empire, was prosperous, and saw little civil conflict ensuing relvaeros' joining. rulers and subjects alike indulged in a wondrous era of luxury, and the long years of peace seemed too good to be reality, after what sorrow calamitously transpired — the death of mother and family and estrangement from those who may have yet lived, the ever-present uncertainty of his meaning to the world — yet all felt nearly mended with each affirmation from lover and leader.

  iii. inferno

  30,101 — 29,097 BCE.

  many things fell prey to pride, and in every ruler's age, such prey was unity. echoes of war slowly crept across the land of the dragon, as four powers stood unyielding, whose borders spanned nearer and nearer, who held unconquered armies in their grasp, as tensions of present and past slowly arose. among them were zuluthir, the crimson — strunruzaakthur, the galeborn — golenvok, the earthshaper — and kreinmuthir, the sun's flame. more than once had those of opposing empires dared threaten zuluthir's own, and in spite of its greater company and ferocious reputation and newfound god, had spat upon the name of his people and forebearer who emerged atop them all. yet ruthless as she was and made her heir to be, no less blood stained her hands than those who abhorred her, and what was done had been done — or so it was to those who thrived under the reign of bygone atrocities.

  following several years of political unrest, strife's first blood shed when zuluthir's son and scion, uthdolren, was sent in one of many attempts to bring the empires of earth and storm into the flame's fold, hoping to end what enmities remained among them. but from a tumbling tale of hated lineages, strunruzaakthur and golenvok vowed they would never join beneath the crimson's banner, and had declined each offer with scorn. strunruzaakthur sealed war's certainty when an altercation ensued during the embassy, and left uthdolren's body scarred with the mark of tempest's lightning. in rage, zuluthir sent his warriors to decimate the earthshaper and galeborn and all who served them. kreinmuthir was the last and most reluctant in her joining, for although she had suffered great horrors during the forging of the empire of flame, her numbers were fewer and amassed of those in possession of prized abilities — yet hesitance all but shattered when proof was drawn of their blasphemous attempts to bring the dead back to life, and fanned the sparks into flame, as the war of four emperors erupted.

  relvaeros served as a lieutenant commander with viikidol at his side. together, they smited the forces of sun and earth and storm beneath the iron fist of zuluthir's savage legion. several times had relvaeros utilized serpentine wit to slip into enemy quarters, disguised as courtesans and soldiers and everything in-between, lying in diligence for whatever upper hand awaited. eventually, the fruit of his infiltrations bore itself plentiful, as he witnessed kreinmuthir's scheme to strike at zuluthir beneath a guise of her own — uthdolren. before word of the plan could even leave the room, relvaeros destroyed her.

  through decades of truces and minor pauses of carnage, all proved futile to those with no reason for trust. strunruzaakthur was the next to fall, for his impulsiveness stripped him bare on the field of battle, leaving golenvok as the ultimate and most relentless force. no element nor bare tooth and claw could pierce its way through minions of stone — but smoke could. in his midst of channeling a powerful spell, relvaeros crippled the earthshaper with choking shade, and strangled his heart from within.

  the death of monarchs was not only for what flame hungered. before the war would end and surrenders yielded, zuluthir proposed one last fight to his warriors. as the fragmented survivors of the fallen empires lamented their ruin, fury's cruel grip would pass again, destroying their remainders for fear that the broken would strike back in revenge. and so the command was heeded, and the last of once-grand peoples were annihilated.

  iv. dominion

  29,097 — 10,133 BCE.

  the empire of flame emerged victorious from the thousand-year war. for his fearless tact and bravery in the face of death, relvaeros was bestowed with the position of the emperor's personal and grandest adviser, and titled the emperor's will. revered and dreaded alike, his love with rhosathul flourished, centuries of happiness and restoration danced by, as life became perfect anew — till festering corruption leaked through scarlet jaws and entombed the light of a god.

  soon after the war, uthdolren had departed from the eye of his father's crowd in pursuit of destiny or demise elsewhere, having brought shame to his bloodline for failure to ascend what ideals of might were set upon him. zuluthir surmised this leave as nothing more than a threat, and in the first of countless profanities, ordered his grand adviser to kill the betrayer heir, with taunting, brutal desire to show him true valor, even if only once, before death. many whispered rumors of zuluthir's belief that which he slain was no more than a loyalist of kreinmuthir in disguise, waiting for the ripest opportunity to exact retribution, and that his true son perished fighting.

  zuluthir could yet recall the bloodthirst of his mother in her conquest, and what brought her death by no weapon that was not her own mind. for as fire was a dragon's birthright, so, too, was an eroding timelessness. they had not fallen to disease of the flesh, instead to plague whose affliction was seen only in terrible deeds, whose name was madness.

  relvaeros remained in a position of great prestige as his title rotted to depravity. for five millennia, he was exposed without inhibition to the rapid descent of his emperor, and all his bouts of hysteria and wrath and vileness, blind to the truth of his crumbling nature. assigned increasingly horrific tasks, from demolishing settlements who refused zuluthir's reign, to entangling control around those who bowed in fear, he continued onward with the knowing that all zuluthir did was for the glory of their empire, for the honor of his own very name. no matter the cost, everything he was, and would be, he owed to zuluthir, and would not allow such loyalty to falter. but how wrong it was to kneel.

  the fading of magic had not done so in silence to those whose blood it pulsed within, nor did zuluthir's surrender to delirium remain unknown, sat high atop his covetous prizes of incomparable domination. yet with mortalkind's ascension and dwindling of earthen power, magic's obscure vanishing only worked to hasten the final unraveling of his sanity, and the harrowing hand of fate it forced.

  v. sundering

  10,133 BCE.

  a time had come when relvaeros could no longer devotedly watch the destruction which madness sought to inflict upon his proud people. sparking as a thought in deepest regret, as whispers of betrayal and disgrace resounded within — till burning anger roused and set fire to fear and illusions of freedom, confessing to all which he had wrought and endured alone, accepting what malevolence was also his own, and finally confided first to rhosathul and viikidol, and found that forgiveness was not beyond their amity.

  contrite and unbound, relvaeros patiently began rallying those who saw only terror in zuluthir's power, and a mere six months later defected from the empire with a crowd of thousands, all from warriors to commoners, who pledged to serve their god-king. they took residence in golenvok's northward abandoned city, and there composed a plan of reclamation, to rend tyranny's walls and demand atonement for the corruption it spread.

  but not all could be so valiant. informants unavoidably stood within the insurgent's numbers, relaying intentions to their true loyalties, and in doing so, prematurely began the civil war of flame. caught without preparation, though assembling in discipline and ferocity, as zuluthir's forces stormed relvaeros' bastion during midst of night — fires raged and earth trembled and magic screamed, just as its wielders. gore and death were not long to fill the air, and a remorse unlike any embraced the obsidian's heart, with every gaze upon the faces of those he once fought for, and loved, as their blood filled his mouth. such carnage came for three nights with no remission in sight, each dawn a joyless subsiding. upon its final evening, relvaeros led his people to battle more calamitous than every fight before it, as rage overtook exhaustion, and victory for justice shone through — till relvaeros was ambushed and overpowered, his wings and throat swiftly fettered, and helplessly made to hearken a familiar cackling deafened only by the sound of a piercing cry that echoed between the flames. loosened feather and dying glow poured from that which fell lifelessly to the earth in a thunderous crack — rhosathul.

  first swelled the wave of unhallowed and utter dread that enveloped every reach of body and soul, as if a very part of him had perished and decayed. and upon a realization which the pitiless universe coerced within his mind, relvaeros' unspeakable grief and wrath tore fissures into the deepest pits of earth, and blotted the sky in drowning smoke, and charged at zuluthir and all his adherents with vow to kill him no matter the cost, even if it should be his own life.

  they battled fiercely for hours as others warred around them, in conflict unlike the world or cosmos had ever stood witness to, emperor and god exposing their true power in all its hideous strength. a gaping wound was ripped across relvaeros' chest, his heart nearly taken from his body, yet not even the devastation of its trauma dared hinder his fury. when their strife had neared its end, the emperor attempted to strangle relvaeros, boasting of futility and mocking the struggling body beneath his merciless weight.

  “ you were grand once. you could have overtaken the world! and why have you not?! i built you, it was i who made you! you are mine, and mine alone! ”

  but in the midst of his ravenous speech, he loosened his grip for the briefest instant, and relvaeros jolted forward, clenching his jaws to zuluthir's neck with every last fragment of hate. his severed head fell to the earth, and the crimson emperor's reign was finally ended.

  vi. ashes

  10,133 BCE — 1782.

  a pitiful fraction emerged living from the battle, hastening broken from its gruesome scene. those once allied took absolution or animosity far from their collapsed empire, its walls turned to ash and smoldering ruins of glory lost forever. relvaeros had been nurtured from the brink of death by viikidol and his family, and as he regained a semblance of strength days later, the shadow god returned to his once-beloved home. he was met only with the solemn sight of miles of melted stone and dying flames, the rich crimson hues of towering magnificence all but burnt to blackness, and the fear-stricken remains of those who had chosen death before servitude, of those deemed unworthy in the eyes of mania — of those he failed to save. not even his ancestral kingdom of shadow was spared, and it, too, had been reduced to little more than rubble beneath his feet.

  relvaeros stayed in the company of his eldest friend during their prompt fleeing to mesopotamia, clad in newfound mortal skins, but soon could only long for solitude. the ambitions which once drove him had vanished as smoke in wind, replaced with a chasmal void, of torturous ire, of unending grief, of shame. his mind was sent asunder, as all that he honored was no more, and in those moments of unrelenting dark had he nearly called upon the forbidden magics of undeath to bring anything of joy by his side again. were it not for udraja's intervention — convincing him that if dragonkind should someday overcome their dying, his subjects would learn of the transgression and never follow him — he would have seen it through.

  life passed quickly in sorrow. viikidol settled in spain and there seemed to find comfort, and relvaeros ever-drifted throughout the eastern world, disappearing into hibernation for centuries at a time. as mortal numbers flourished and his proud race diminished into legend, the fallen king could only foresee an existence spent mourning his distant yore, heeding the wails of a dying earth, to bear the weight of all he forsake, alone.

  vii. embers

  1782

  finding temporary hearth in the bustling country of scotland, relvaeros had been known as relian to the human world, hidden beneath one of many guises of enchanting beauty. during his departure from a night of solitary festivities, he wandered astray to roads not often walked. in the silence of poverty and shadows of dim light, a sickened youth sat dirtied and sunken against a decrepit building, though even the heaviest of soot would have done little to shroud the beauty of his face. the mortal was given that of a downward glance, and the recognition of crystalline eyes too blue to belong to man, but as relian continued on, he heard a most quiet plea, for any money or food at all — and could not bring himself to take another step. an overwhelming tide of aching, that foreign, forgotten empathy was kindled in the depths of his core, for he saw another there, the fading warmth of a devotion abandoned, and the knowing that is what he could have been all those years ago, if none had showed him kindness. and so he turned to face the familiar stranger, and knelt, and lifted him to his feet.
  

  “ come, ” he spoke softly. “ tonight you shall be safe. ”

  viii. rekindled

  1782 — 1798

  aside burning logs and rich quilting had the gracious boy introduced himself — an orphan of age nineteen, named aedan, whose family's succumbing to disease left him without place. relian offered aedan hospitality until morning, and when morning came, offered again to find him sound means of dwelling elsewhere, or let his own be such. taken aback by generosity he had never before known, aedan expressed his desire for the latter, and at long last, relian found reason to lay down his hatred, and chose to impart kindness unto a kindred outcast. in the months that followed, aedan was provided a lush education, clothing of the work of the finest tailors, entry among fantastic lands and societies, presented his every whim — yet had never grown accustomed to the benevolence, and accepted each gift with gratitude and humility.

  helpless to deny his utter starvation, relian had fallen in love with the mortal, and the mortal had loved him the same. though their bond was nothing short of ardent, so, too, was it filled with doubt and death's lingering certainty, that which would inevitably tear them apart. every moment was made precious by temporality's inescapable fate, and relian was anguished with the regret of ever losing his heart to a frail creature of flesh. out of fear their time together would end too suddenly, he revealed to aedan what he truly was, readied only for recoil and desertion — but when the boy's fingers instead grazed the clouds and wept in awe at the magnificence of it all, it was the first time in thousands of years that relian felt alive.

  xi. dolor

  1798

  during the late winter of 1798, after returning from one of their many trips throughout europe, relian's dreadful nightmare escaped its faraway confinement when he discovered aedan had contracted a severe case of influenza, and shortly after, developed pneumonia. immediately visited by doctors near and far, each were commanded with the task of finding a lasting cure, but no matter what they prescribed or the methods they tried, aedan only fell deeper into the stupor of sickness.

  though there were periods of progress in which it seemed he would recover, three months had gone by since aedan was first plagued with the malady, and before complete healing could occur, despite relian's fervent measures of sanitation, another disease was recognized — tuberculosis. once more was he bedridden with no end in sight, and left to live in agony. relian stayed by his side each and every hour of the days he spent ill, doing all in his power to heal his beloved.

  but on a dreary, gray evening, after a violent spike in fever ravaged through aedan's body, leaving him too incapacitated to even speak, and having been told the damage had taken an irreversible toll, relian knew with terrifying conviction that he would never again see his love in flight. he could not bear that thought, and battled within himself throughout the long night, and before the next night could arrive, came to the heinous realization of what needed to be done. after endless unheared tears, ceaseless contemplation, and declaring his undying loyalty a final time, relian fed aedan a glass of water laced with ricin, claiming it was only medicine, allowing him to pass within merciful, quiet hours.

  he was not buried, for there could be no tangible memory of mortal love left to pain him. relian brought what remained upon a mountainside to there be set aflame, the wind his only urn, as he again watched the futile hope of his world disappear into nothingness, in ashes he would never thereafter turn to life,

  001. INTIMACY / ECSTASY.

  dragons were physical and visceral creatures who expressed a vast assortment of emotion through bodily means, oftentimes regardless of an existing relationship. cordial, platonic, and romantic affection were shown in very similar ways — kisses, hugs, nuzzles, headbutts, and other displaying of outward sentiment were socially accepted and commonplace. several of their behaviors also resembled feline behaviors, such as frequent grooming, kneading of claws when happy and calm, and purring. this instinctual embracing of sensuality stays with relian even now, as well as draconian views on copulation.

  it is no secret that relian is a being of lust, one of incessant promiscuity, and one who seeks pleasure through many different methods, for the society he once belonged to believed sexual enjoyment as nature’s gift, and even an art, meant to be exercised as plentifully, consensually, and unashamedly as one saw fit. dragons did not directly associate romantic love with sex, but it was seen as something deeply sacred when preformed between bonded mates. although an intersex species, discrimination was not placed upon an individual's preference of physical attributes.

  sex remains one of relian’s greatest familiarities to the past, one that does not explicitly remind him of its terrors, but its joys. even when used as a device of manipulation, he relishes in the physicality and primal emotion that has become so lost to the rest of his life.

  
  

  002. INDEPENDENCE / ISOLATION / DECEPTION.

  from earliest youth, relian has made himself to a being of endurance. forced into independence, greatly without family and guidance beyond words in books, he was raised in the ghost of his mother, never fully able to rid the guilt for her death. motaadzin loved him, or so it seemed, but before long the sheltered child was forged to mimic what ancestry commanded and more. scarcely prepared for the importance his very blood and breath held, relian refused to let fear be chains, and stood powerful, individually, insatiably, with minimal aid from those beyond his most trusted. and millennia later, as the world burned around him, he vowed to never rely on any but himself again, and his once-noble eagerness for sovereignty was warped to a solemn aegis in a fate that forbade death.

  a bygone life of honest council and passionate advising has been stripped to desperate need for survival — and finding it in power is all relian yet knows. even through hopelessness of earth’s future and whispers that beg for acceptance of end, relian persists, for he will not repeat the failures of the past. he may integrate himself wherever desired with impeccable ease, and will form any facade to fill his lust for power and knowledge. it is nearly impossible that relian would allow himself to truly feel for another, knowing it would do little more than tear away his constructs of conservancy. should a partnership no longer remain beneficial to him, or teeter frightfully on the edge of attachment, it will be put to an end. this dependence towards power has ultimately left relian reliant upon others respecting or fearing him. if an individual does not react in either way, he will often accuse such behavior as lies for the sake of retaining their own image — for even he will pause to recognize those worthy of their boasted might. not only does he feel it an insult to the tangible threat of his power, but it reins him back to the childhood mindset that he was bound only to be forgotten for the very strength he would eventually make his legacy of.

  it is difficult for relian to know the extent of the falsity he now lives by. yet denied and hidden and shamed, what further erodes this futile endurance is fear. astronomically terrified to experience love or joy or succumbing to the escape from a dying world as so many of his kin have, he plays only the role of deceiver.

  003. AVARICE.

  evolving from a trait born in days of primordial yore, in which a dragon’s collection of riches aided in finding a mate, insatiable greed remains to be a hallmark of their blood. whether gained from scouring, vying, or inheritance, such need for fortune was inborn. even so, not many in recent immortal history have neared what opulence lays within relian’s den of riches, housing his personal hoard for nearly forty-five millennia.

  located in southeastern iran, kept meticulously hidden from humankind in an underground cavern dozens of feet below the surface, with the additional security of impenetrable magic, only those with the power of earth may open or even locate its passageway. great enough to fit relian’s entire draconian form several times over, upon entering and setting fire to numerous torches and chandeliers, one is greeted with a scene plucked directly from a foreboding legend — unimaginable amounts of ancient heirlooms, tomes, weaponry, charred bones, ashes, among other scattered treasures and trinkets and remains, but most impressively of all are the hills of gold that stretch from one earthen wall to the next, and the millions of gems in all rarities and shapes within it.

  with the aid of udraja's power of enchanting and teleportation, relian may visit his hoard whenever he so desires, simply by speaking an incantation unto the large, opulent mirror in his bedroom, and stepping through it. he may return using this same method upon a gargantuan, rotting mirror embedded firmly in the sanctuary's crude black stone.

  
  

  004. DESCENDANTS.

  relian has not shown to inhabit any pattern of traits throughout his life that suggest he should be committed to fatherhood or motherhood. in draconian society, this happening was considered just as much of a biological role as reproduction itself, and not something negative or defective, simply a result of nature’s will. though perhaps such philosophy was not so for gods or others of royal blood, and because of the need to eventually create the next god of shadow, relian often pondered on the matter of brooding with rhosathul. however, unbeknownst to any beyond his inner circle, he had suffered a total of four self-terminated pregnancies due to his fears associated with parenthood, which put great strain upon their mateship. despite the responsibility to do so, many were understanding of his hesitance to create children regarding his own familial tragedies. now, relian has decided he shall indeed be the last shadow god, unless humanity perishes and magic is restored to the earth.

  omitting his seeming lack of desire to bear or guard clutches, to those beloved and friends and once to his subjects, relian frequently displays maternal instinct, and is especially empathetic towards orphans, even mortals. this is due to the early loss of his mother. though only in qobonahriik’s presence free of his shell for little more than a fortnight, due to his godly status and the immense energy needed for such a birth, relian’s hatching required six months to complete as opposed to the typical three, granting opportunity to bond with qobonahriik alike none had before. this bond, and his hatred towards his father for severing it, is a main reason why he chooses to appear as a mother figure. though he will only show human orphans kindness if they are able to serve a purpose, there is truth, no matter how minuscule, to that kindness. he was never a mother, nor was he ever a child. but he was a mother to his people, and during his reign was applauded for his significant efforts in reuniting children with the childless. even the fabrication of that feeling brings him comfort.

  relian is extremely gracious towards draconian and non-human young, but far less so to mortal young. he has no qualms of taking the lives of human children, yet does not revel in it as he would with the killing of their species' adults, and would never bring them bodily harm beyond a swift death, following in such views of his people.

  
  

  005. ALLURE.

  while relian is ideally beautiful by the majority of human perception, it is little more than a display of advantageous adaptation. beyond the need to survive, he himself does not value this appearance as greatly as one may think, and in truth, is more drawn to the flawed, unusual, and traditionally ugly.

  compared to humanity, dragons upheld vastly different concepts of physical allure. as an extensively diverse species, there had been no universal standard of what an individual should strive to appear as, instead accentuating that one should only be concerned with keeping good health and bringing no deliberate harm unto their bodies. physical ailments beyond one’s own control, such as birth defects or battle wounds, were not pushed outside of social norm. relian had long expressed an interest in peculiarity of the body and mind alike, leading to his initial attraction to rhosathul — who was albino, fated with delicate scales and such poor vision which forced the usage of aid in the form of glasses, and later, his mate.

  one could also liken relian’s infatuation with those beyond common beauty to his deep-rooted sense of ostracization. though later uplifted by admirers and adherents, it was impossible to fully reconcile the time spent knowing it was his life which prompted the loss of his family. he was an outcast, isolated and made to be forgotten, of which he has become again. however minuscule, he retains an understanding of sympathy for those estranged by circumstances not within their control.

  where the shadows lie / TOLKIEN. as the ages of arda came and left, fear of great serpents began to fade from the earth's people — yet they remained all the same. far to the southeast in the red mountains of the orocarni, the ancient relvaeros sits within a sea of forgotten gold. little of his history is known beyond that he was born early within the first age, and that he served under the command of a dragon named zuluthir for a significant amount of time. using illusionary magics, relvaeros will occasionally leave the comfort of his halls and take on the form of a fair elf, then known as relian.

  
  hatred that binds / NARUTO. forgotten his kin have become, a mere myth in the eyes of the thriving world of mankind, and what pleasure relian yet finds as the ages continue can be drawn from their everlasting conflict. he lurks within a human shell, seeking a revenge that cannot be fulfilled.
  relian currently resides in konohagakure, but travels frequently. he is not a recognized shinobi, mainly due to the fact that, as he is a dragon, he does not have chakra and is instead comprised of raw natural energy — an ominous emptiness that is masked with a straining attempt of imitation.

  he can be a member of the akatsuki depending on the scenario / writing partner, and is among its first supporters, taking great care in researching any who may join. he both prefers and is admitted to carry out missions in solitary, but can be paired with others should the thread call for it. view his akatsuki-specific outfits here. in this verse, relian's draconian hoard is located to the southeast of the land of fire.

  
  fury of the elements / A:TLA. ancient and powerful and on the brink of extinction, little is known of the the original firebenders who mankind so insolently nigh ended the reign of. as the world of mortal benders flourish, that which is forgotten walks discreetly among them as if of their own kin. relian's shrouded power remains as mysterious and seductive as what lies beneath an abyssal ebon glare.
  a frequent traveler, he was once settled in gaoling, and later took interest in moving to the booming republic city. in this verse, relian's draconian hoard is located to the southeast of the si wong desert.

  though peculiar fabrics and way of tongue suggest a heritage farthest eastward, only speculations can be placed to his name. more than a binder of shadows or blood or priest of god, and forever a traveler, an indulger, an enchanter, preferring the world to ash and darkness, who is the keeper of unspoken magics more sinister and ancient than any creature to draw breath that is not breath of flame. he is among the only left in a world that has forgotten, with blood long before the blood of valyria or their legendary monstrosities. he is a dragon, whose very memory is no longer known anywhere but within himself.

  under many names does the faceless one belong within the minds of humanity, but none had brought such terror unto earth's immortal keepers. hosted in high regard many eons prior, relian has since sporadically served as patron to the slenderman, delighted in likened desire for power and torment — that which foreign monstrosity could not exact from race of stalwart magic. he is able to sense its corruption, drawing him to further envenom what dark will it weaves around its feeble pawns, for they are naught but flies in its web.

  upon insistence of an ally most respected would relian depart from his dying earth, summoned by cosmic splendor that, though long since witnessed, was not so unknown to him. and with udraja at his side, among the newfound opportunity of void awaited not only distant worlds, but reality which he so fiercely coveted. once more does he uphold the mantle of deceiver, whose darkness instead bears conquest's eager light, and serving discreetly as the will of imperious condescension and dark gods alike, he seeks only to sate his timeworn vengeance against humanity.

  relian does not join a session of sburb by traditional means, rather he and udraja are integrated with the aid of horrorterrors. because of this, they are without several personalized components of a normal game, such as dream selves, quest beds or denizens in their worlds. regardless, immediately upon learning of its potential, relian traveled within the moon of derse and sacrificed himself to rise as the prince of light, then blessed with ability he patiently keeps at bay.
  one of his initial tasks was to relocate his draconian hoard from earth to his planet of LOEAS, adorned with obsidian castles and eternal braziers not far from a familiar desert kingdom of eons passed. though the embrace of its black sands are firstly gentle, to those without dragon-skin, are alike the suffocating wrath of flame — and whose skies are eternally clouded with ash and smog, making way only for rays of a white sun and moon.
  the combination of his companion's aspect of void and the outer god's power allows them to actively switch between universes and sessions. relian chooses to appear as a purple-blooded troll in the presence of said race.

  relvaeros is one of the oldest remaining dragons in nirn. for many years he served highly within a draconian empire which, during the rebellion of the nordic people, from forces without and within, was brought to a shattering halt, and his kin were forced to the verge of extinction. he fled to the alik'r desert and remained there in a fair elven guise until alduin returned to skyrim. he holds no interest in siding with nor defeating the dragonborn — though would certainly not oppose the opportunity to strike down the likes of such contemptible arrogance.

  draconic alterations. approximately 30' tall, 115' long, with a 160' wingspan. design remains unchanged aside from smaller stature. his hoard is located to the southeast of the alik’r desert. 

  
  

  tainted blood and earth / WARCRAFT.
  relvaeros was a once-loyal adherent to an empire of dragonkin, before ancient glory disastrously succumbed to the mania his flight would eternally come to atone for. thereafter left to roam azeroth without lasting or true ambition, he eventually established long-lasting presences among highborne, high elves, and now blood elves, as a powerful spellblade and magister of fire. the name relian flamebinder is his current alias among the horde.
  extremely mistrusting, and indeed fearful, of any who believe themselves to hold dominance over the fel, void, or powers of undeath due to millennia of witnessing its devastation, he keeps a tentative distance from worldly events, intervening only if the situation is most dire — for even fallen defenders yet feel the ache of their world's mortal-brought suffering.

  of divergence. this blog does not regard the poorly written ending of cataclysm. dragons did not lose their power from deathwing's perishing.

  alliance guise. as the banshee queen launches her avaricious crusade against the boy-king anduin, relian has chosen to uphold false forms amidst both sides of the carnage. though his heart yet burns with the agony of fissures and ashen ancients, war has always proven to be an opportunity — but for what, this time, he does not yet know. beneath the banner of the ren’dorei, clad in skin and locks and silks of rich purple, he is known as evonia ebonsong, holding no allegiance to any class but that of a spellblade, whose fires, he claims, are blackened by void. evonia possesses the near exact feminine build as the dragon’s typical elven guise, but is facially and vocally much different.

  draconic alterations. approximately 50' tall, 200' long, with a 275' wingspan. his design remains unchanged aside from a smaller stature. relian appears similar to both a cloud serpent and traditional black dragonkin due to intermingling of serpentine and primordial earthen genetics. he is the scion of an ancient lineage of kings that can be traced directly back to the first heavenly onyx serpent on azeroth, and is not of neltharion's brood. his hoard is located to the southeastern mountains of the badlands.

  fiery warhorse. whose name is kii. she is the offspring of midnight, the fastest and strongest warhorse in karazhan. like her mother, kii is deathly loyal, powerful, and tireless.
  twilight harbinger. whose name is dezmia. upon deathwing's fall, the drake sought relian out with successful hopes she could convince him that she would prove a useful companion. she later became his handmaiden and shadowbinding defender in battle, frequently taking on a blood elven or human guise, known then as danalise.

  smoldering magmawyrm. whose name is vulsodan. he is the offspring of viikidol, once captured, slain, and risen by the scourge. after regaining his freedom, he allowed himself to be called upon and ridden by his father's close friend, so that his life may be spared against those seeking to purge both undeath and ancient obsidian flight.
  accursed & brimstone wrathsteed. whose names are aghokzii and agmithil, respectively. liberated from the clutches of the burning legion, the void and flame-touched stallion and mare now serve a rider worthy of their saddle.
